Historical accounts suggest that the township of Ballandean was established in 1872 when the first resumption of land from Ballandean Station was effected. This land was surveyed into 40 acre portions, mostly situated along the Severn River, and serviced many of the miners who had come to the Ballandean area in search of tin. By 1887, the section of railway linking Stanthorpe and Wallangarra had opened and Ballandean had become a popular meeting place for both miners and construction workers alike.

Over time, the mining industry gave way to farming and this has continued through to the present day with many wineries and fruit orchards scattered throughout the picturesque surrounds of Ballandean. Ballandean State School has embraced this historical connection by including the grape leaf in our school crest and in some way this serves as a tribute to the local farming industry for the many years of support they have given the school community.

Today, Ballandean State School prides itself in providing the very best education possible to our students. Our school is well resourced and our staff are a dedicated team of professionals with the sole focus of supporting and guiding our students' learning.

Currently we have 29 students enrolled across three multi-age classrooms from Prep to Year 6. Our small class sizes ensure that our students receive regular individualised attention which supports a focused and contextualised school curriculum. Our students also enjoy participating in a range of extra-curricular activities including the Border District Eisteddfod, dance tuition and interschool sports competition.

The Ballandean State School P&C share our dedication to provide students with the best educational opportunities and they are active in supporting the school's improvement agenda by making regular contributions towards student activities. Combined with the support from parents and the wider community, Ballandean State School really is a wonderful place to learn.

As members of the Ballandean State School community, students and staff are responsible, respectful and resilient. Practising these four values, combined with our motto 'Preparing our students for their future', results in a supportive and engaging learning environment conducive to academic achievement and social development, something that the school community takes immense pride in.

If you would like to join our wonderful school community or would simply like more information, please don't hesitate to contact the school.
